Animal waste valorisation for an eco-efficient biodiesel

Would you use an eco-efficient biodiesel from waste coming from the tannery industry?

A LIFE funded project works on a pilot plant that applies an improved, sustainable and ecological process aiming circular economy.

Current situation

In Europe, 17 million tons of animal by-products are managed (SANDACH). They produce 2’85 million of animal fats a part of which are fated to disposal in landfills or incineration. This means a problem for both, the climate and the environment since they can contain harmful substances.

Main Objective

To demonstrate at pilot plant scale the production of two types of biofuels from animal fat residues. These biofuels will be achieved using supercritical conditions with new catalytic technology, thus producing technical, environmental and economic advantages on regard the traditional process.
